As one of the newest editions at the Melbourne Square Mall in Melbourne, Florida, Taza Leather hopes to introduce our products to the Space Coast community. Aside from showing what makes our handcrafted creations so unique, our goal is to teach our locals about ethical and mindful sourcing as well as the American Made Movement. Unfortunately, in recent decades, fast fashion has been on the rise due to its fast production, and cheap cost. While it seems good to the consumer, they are left with a product which creates an obscene amount of carbon emissions, while disintegrating with time causing people to buy more to replace the one they lost. Additionally, many large corporations which prosper from fast fashion have their goods manufactured in sweatshops by children who are endangered by the working conditions and long hours there. The Made in America Movement has not only continually supported families across the nation, but also promoted a stable economy for the United States. Instead of paying a cheaper price to manufacture our pieces, we want to continue creating handmade, durable, long-lasting, and functional pieces for people to use for many years to come. For this reason we source our leathers from an American tannery which traces its roots back to more than 150 years, rich in the leather tanning tradition. Our alligator skins are sourced from local hunters who sustainably hunt wild alligators, keeping alligators from overpopulation. By utilizing high quality raw materials, such as alligator and cow and hand crafting each creation, we can ensure that our final product will be high quality as well, down to the very last stitch. Thankfully, our modern society is learning to stray away from goods that are not derived from a sustainable source. With this movement in action, we hope to create a greener planet for those around us and for generations to come.
Although we have only been here since the beginning of November, we will be leaving in just six months. Our goals as an experimental pop-up shop are to create a lasting impression in our community and teach our newly made friends about sustainability and longevity. Additionally, spreading our message of slow-fashion and educating others why it is important is another one of our priorities as a growing small business. Because we are here for such a short time, we will be changing styles, textures, and colors of our pieces quite frequently. Not only will these styles be made for a limited time, but we will also only be making limited quantities. Making new additions to our Men’s and Women’s collection is exciting since there is so much liberty in craftsmanship. Soon, we will be seeing new additions in our shop such as belts, crossbody bags, clutches, and of course a wide assortment in wallets for men and women. In addition to expanding our selection, we will continue to create custom works as per request from our loyal customers.
